How do you decide between OEM parts and aftermarket alternatives?
I’ve been going back and forth lately on whether OEM parts are always worth the extra cost, especially for maintenance and repairs. For some parts like filters, brake pads, and suspension components, aftermarket options seem much cheaper, but I’m never 100% sure about the quality difference long term.
From what I’ve learned so far, I think it depends on the part. For critical components like engine sensors, transmission parts, or safety-related items, OEM feels like the safer choice. But for things like air filters, brake pads, spark plugs, and even some suspension parts, good aftermarket brands can be just as reliable if you choose carefully and avoid the really cheap stuff.
This seems especially relevant for people maintaining Japanese cars in Pakistan, since parts availability and pricing can vary a lot depending on the model.
I was researching this topic recently and found some useful maintenance and buying guides on a site called Nobuko Japan that explained the difference pretty clearly in real-world terms.
What do you guys usually choose between OEM and aftermarket, and has anyone had a bad experience with either?
